In the north, the Castelli Romani with their volcanic lakes and historic towns, is still considerable evidence of the glories of ancient Roman noble families, suggest itineraries artistic, historical and cultural, as the charm of the past and traditions preserved in the folklore of ancient folk festivals (Christmas and Wine dell'Uva to Marino and Velletri Frascati, Genzano of the Infiorata, the Feast of Strawberries and Flowers in Nemi, the Festival of Camellias in Velletri). But the Castelli Romani are also inviting gastronomic itineraries to discover the wines of the Colli Albani and genuine Roman cuisine with its antique dishes. To the east, the mountains Peschio, Artemisio and the chain of Lepini, with their forests of chestnuts and oaks laden with lights and colors, offering nature lovers the opportunity to picnic and hiking or mountain biking. To the south, however, the islands of Ponza, Palmarola Ventotene and represent a real paradise for lovers of clean sea and scuba diving. In the most clear days these islands stand out on the horizon in front of the promontory of Monte Circeo, nestled between the Gulf of Sabaudia and Terracina, in defense of the national park behind it and brackish lakes where the buffalo graze. Finally to the west, the Tyrrhenian coast offers a number of other beaches for bathing and water sports, and also historical towns such as Anzio and Nettuno (it has a modern port of recent construction).
